Sigh of relief…and the feel of responsibility

21st February, 2017, marks the official end of the course 3D Architectural Visualization. Although, the instruction and the assessment ended on January 26th, the certificates were generated today!

In a nutshell, this was a small experiment of a ‘livelihood’ course, to spread knowledge and skill sets to create new opportunities! Only time will be able to say about its impact, however there are some encouraging numbers which are worth the toil we all put in!

Contrary to our belief that less than 500 participants will probably join the course (since we had kept a low key of publicity), more than 800 of them joined. Also, contrary to the earlier trends, where less than 50% are seen active, we had more than 60% participants active at various stages of the 6 weeks of the course! Finally, more than 31% passed the course! This is a significant percentage, compared to the global percentage of 10-12% of passing rate of MOOCs! Kudos to the entire production team at IITBombayX. It is not a thanks giving speech, however I feel it is my duty and honour to bring out the efforts of the team members who shaped this course in to a grand success!

Firstly the course instructors: Kavita Narvekar and Kaumudi Sahasrabudhe, had put in tre
mendous efforts in fine tuning each session to perfection. Sandeep Gaikwad pulled out the design corrections with the help of a trusted helping hand: Bhairav! Their efforts were complimented by the video team members of eStudio, IITBombayX (Sandeep, Prakash, and Kailas). The team was ever ready for the shoots, irrespective of the day, date, and time! Equally supportive were other teams from the content (Urmila and Jaiprakash) and the system administration (Abhilash and Swati). In addition to these teams, there was a core team of coordinators running the show: Siddhesh and Sandeep were the up till early hours almost everyday to maintain, track, and modify the course contents, and forums! They also implemented new ideas such as mailing participants for their left over quiz questions, and giving customized feedback! Last, but not the least, young students: Gauri and Chaitrali helped as beta testers and created many assignment problems. All in all it was a huge team effort, which brought in this course to the day light!

As the certificates get downloaded, I feel a sigh of relief on one hand…however on the other, I feel the growing responsibility to take this mission forward in order to change the livelihoods of many more!!

Check the collage of submissions by the participants of SKARC101X. We could not add EACH submission in this, but I will be writing about that in detail very soon!

PS: Just visited the course page, and realized that I haven’t scored enough to qualify for a certificate!
